Governor's Visit

Susan Price

President Andy Goudy welcomed all to our special meeting today and welcomed District Governor Jm Hahn and Marlene.
A.G. Brad announced there were 33 members present + PDG Steve Arnowitz and A.G Colleen. (Steve serves as Advisor to the District Governor and Colleen is an AG in our new District 7305).
Also visiting was Liz Rodgers a former Washington Rotarian and now a member of the Canonsburg-Houston-Southpointe Rotary Club…good to see Liz.

Prior to the regular meeting DG JIM conducted an informational meeting with our Club Officers.

Dave Hart and DG Jim presented Gist Wylie with an upgrade Paul Harris recognition. DG Jim recognised how important it is for us to continue our support to The Rotary Foundation. Congratulations to Gist for all of his service to our Club and to all of the projects we have going.

HAPPY $$$$$$$$$$$$$

  • Jim Uram:  happy to give a check for $70 to the Foundation for his upcoming 70th Birthday certainly a generous way to celebrate. He also told us he and Andy and Tom went to West Point or did he say Claysville (???). Admittedly while taking notes I wasn’t sure but perhaps this will be translated for us.
  • Bill Mesler:  always happy but this time for his daughter who was very ill over the past few months but sought relief from a chiropractor and all worked well for her and everyone is happy she is feeling so much better and has returned to work.  We are all happy for you and your family Bill….
  • Kathy Sabol: happy to announce the Bar Association will have the “Trial of David Bradford” presented to them in the Court House on October 16. This is not open to the public but Kathy invites Rotarians to attend. Kathy claims you have time to attend the “Trial” and still get to the Hilton Garden Inn to attend the DVSSP Dinner. (Susan did not pay Kathy for the plug)
  • Betsy West: happy for the success of last week’s Market with the Titanium Titan Robotics activities and this week EQT will give school supplies to all children present and the W&J students will aid in the distribution.
  • Lars Lange:  back from the bike ride (trip) from Washington DC to Pittsburgh with 12 bikers from Germany along with his Dad. Lars lost some bike time due to having to drive the car with all the luggage along the way (European drivers are not covered on his insurance). Lars was generous with his dollars as he paid for the meetings he has missed…good idea!
  • Brandi Miller: happy to thank the O-R for another great article in today’s paper on Debora Dutra from Brazil. Debora plans to work with the animal shelter until she passes the U.S. Language and Nursing Proficiency tests along with securing an employer to sponsor her. ALSO don’t forget the First Annual Scholar Bowl the Literacy Council is sponsoring on October 12.
  • Susan Price: happy $$ to promote the DVSSP dinner on October 16 (immediately following the David Bradford Trial).
  • Tom Drewitz:  happy for the District Governor’s visit and for his granddaughter’s first day of school (hope she has stopped crying).
  • PDG Steve Arnowitz: happy to visit today and assist Governor Jim when needed.
  • Governor Jim: happy to be here with Marlene visiting a great Club.
  • Bob Wicker: announced a 2019 Chili Cook-Off on October 13 from noon to 4PM sponsored by the Bridgeville-South Fayette Rotary Club. They are looking for sponsorships but also looking for people to enter their chili and to come and help eat the chili!

PROGRAM: Governor's Official Visit

AG Brad Montgomery introduced District Governor Jim Hahn and Marlene

Jim grew up in Avalon and attended Avalon High School where he played football. Jim went on to Robert Morris to earn a degree in Business and then went on to graduate from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science. Jim has been involved in business in various locations and in various roles and has purchased the Kasper Funeral Home in Ambridge. Jim belongs to many professional and civic organizations and has held offices in most of them!
Having served as President of the Millvale and Ambridge Rotary Clubs Jim is very aware of the role Rotary can play on both the international level and the local community level. Jim looks forward to a great Rotary year in our new District 7305 and pledges to help each club in any way he can. Together “Rotary Connects the World”
Jim’s advice: keep doing what you do and support the 5th Way Test (Is it FUN?).
Fellowship – Family—Fun
Jim believes that Service is our RENT on life!
PROJECT: Children’s Car Seats will be the District Project this year offering tags to be placed on car seats to make it possible IF the family is in an accident and the parents cannot make the decisions with the child the contact information will be on this tag to allow First Responders to contact family and avoid the child being placed with Child Services.
Kits are being distributed to all club and we can work locally with first responders, hospitals and other organizations to distribute the tags.
