We Care -  Solar Suitcase

This year's District Project will be to provide a life-saving aid to communities that have little or unreliable electrical service.
The We Care Solar Suitcase® is an economical, easy-to-use portable power unit that provides health workers with highly efficient medical lighting and power for mobile communication, laptop computers and small medical devices.
The We Care Solar Suitcase was originally designed to support timely and efficient emergency obstetric care, but can be used in a range of medical and humanitarian settings.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 1. Bill Price announced the District Conference campaign to Strike Out Polio Day at PNC Park is on July 7 with the Cracker Jack and flyers on the tables. Tickets can be ordered using the information on the flyers, Outfield Box and Infield Grandstand at: www.pirates.com/Rotary. Each ticket sold means a $5.00 donation goes to help Strike Out Polio. This information will be available each week until the event.
2. Dave Hart distributed Foundation Pledge forms as the Water Filter ends and the Solar Suitcase program (see above)  begins for clinics and field hospitals in Uganda and Tanzania as we partner with District 9211. An individual contribution of $120 and a Club donation of $1000 will help meet the goals of the Districts.
3. PONY Baseball is fast approaching and Jim Uram has volunteered to chair the event. Volunteers will be needed to stay tuned to this need, always a fun event and a great way to help to publicize some of what Rotary does in the community.
4. President Rich gave an update on the Pavilion Project with the rafters being repaired at the next phase.
5. June 7 is Rotary Day at the Farmer’s Market so drop by and help to spread the Rotary word.

PROGRAM:  Mary JO Podgurski

Mary JO Podgurski honored her Dad, her PaPa, for Father’s Day by explaining how he influenced her growing up. MJ explained that he was a “big dude” wiith a large spirit. Dad came to America at age 14, self-taught and influenced all who came in contact with him. Passed at age 96 and was always wise beyond his years. PaPa taught MJ that “all people are worthy”. What a great influence that is reflected in all MaryJo does in her work to help others.

Nat Roe Update:  Nat has settled in at Southminster Place Room 308. If you can visit him just for a few minutes he will be so grateful but if you can’t send him a card or a note. Nat is one of us and has been for over 50 years!!
