INVOCATION:

Bill West

no 50/50

…we were ALL winners

GUESTS:

Carol Keller who feels “at home” here and always happy to see her!

Ulli Lang a visiting Rotarian and designated “Celebrity Bartender”

MEMBERSHIP MOMENT:

PDG Tom Drewitz inducted Gretchen Stein into membership in the Washington Rotary.  Gretchen is the Director of Sales for the Doubletree Hotel. She is returning to Rotary and happy to be back as well as happy to be back at the Doubletree.  WELCOME HOME!!
Tom emphasized something with the induction that many forget and forget to spread the word to pending members…Rotary can do so much due to the  membership of 1.2  million and as a group tremendous projects can be realized.
Gretchen started her new membership off on a great foot arranging all of our meeting space, menu and setup via text while sitting in the airport in Orlando! Just an update, she did this at 7:00 am and the question is “Who does that?” Someone who is a Rotarian at heart!

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

President Bill announced the following

March 27 the McMurray Club will host the check presentation to Joyce Ellis of the Lemoyne Community Center as all of the work proposed in our joint Community Grant has been completed.

At the presentation, Joyce recited a poem that the Lemoyne Center young people performed at a function. It is very moving and linked here http://www.africaspeaks.com/reasoning/index.php?topic=2128.0;wap2

District News:

  1. It is time for all Rotary Clubs to select “electors” who will serve the new combined district (7305) for the coming year. One Rotarian and one alternate from each of our 4 areas are to be selected to serve on the Finance Committee. Electors will vote an electronic ballot and should take about 5 minutes—Easy and anyone can do it—How about YOU?
  2. Finance Committee members must be a Past Club President, set the district budget and this is a 2 year term. The Deadline is April 10. Bill Allison enthusiastically nominated PDG Drewitz as he feels Tom’s knowledge of the District is what we need and our District needs to serve us well. Another enthusiastic Rotarian (Phil Rush) made a second and a room full of enthusiastic Rotarians agreed!
  3. NOW…we need another nominee and who might fill that position? Remember all of you former Presidents out there are eligible for this. Don’t be shy and you will work with great District Leadership!
  4. Dorothy Tecklenburg gave an update on the March Madness pool and it looks like Joe Piszczor is in the lead at this time. There is a crowd tied for 2ndand it will be interesting to follow to see who will really WIN!
  5. June 18 is the date for the Washington Wild Things and the use of the Washington Financial Party Box. President Bill won this in a silent auction and is willing to “raffle” it off to someone in the Club for their use. This is a $400 value and includes 22 tickets for the game. Lots of fun and there is food included so don’t be shy…more information coming.
  6. Katy Sabol who admits to having been MIA was able to give a wrap up of the Trivia Night. It seems as though Ulli would like to take Trivia to Colorado … wouldn’t a Field Trip be a great idea and we could all go there and run their Trivia Night?? Kathy thanked ALL of the volunteers and the fact that the high school kids did so well. She thanked those who donated items/time/$$ to help the Trivia Night be a success once again.
