INVOCATION:

Betsy West especially thankful for First Responders and the Professional manner in handling the building collapse on Main Street last week; thankful also for this NOT happening in the midst of the Whiskey Rebellion Festival when so many adults and children lined the streets. THANK YOU BETSY.

50/50:

There was a smiling WINNER we know as Ken Baker and a NON-Winner known as Tom Drewitz.

GUESTS:

Dr. James Konrad (new Washington SD Superintendent) guest of Bob Wicker
Kathy Pienkowski from Citizens Library representing Diane Ambrose

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • President Elect Bill Price welcomed members and guests to the meeting and made a few announcements.
  • Rotary International announced the death of Pres-Elect Sam Owori from Uganda following surgical complications in Texas. Sam was scheduled to take his position as RI President in Toronto.
  • Acknowledged that the Club received a Thank You from Ulie Lange for our expression of sympathy at the recent passing of his wife. Ulie is often a visitor from his Club in Paonia Colorado.
  • Announced that it is time again to VOLUNTEER for the souvenir stand at PONY Baseball. Hurry and sign up…don’t be shut out. Join the fun and it is fun…no stress or heavy lifting involved. See Bob Wicker or Brad Montgomery if you miss the sheet.
  • Reminder that Dave Hart may not be here today BUT he will still accept your donations to the Foundation.
  • Joe Piszczor is collecting fund$ and di$tributing ticket$ for the Ca$h Ba$h. Remember to mark 9/9/17 on your calendar as this is another opportunity to volunteer and have some different fun with fellow Rotarians and the general public.
  • Bill encouraged all to read the current Rotarian dealing with Membership in the article “Why I Joined” and how to realize there is a Club to “fit” everyone. This is of major importance as we continue to rebuild membership. Another interesting article is one where a Rotarian sets a schedule to visit a different Rotary Club every day of the week. Remember IF YOU VISIT another Club, ask them for a MakeUp Meeting slip, give to DAVE or TODD and you will NOT be charged for your lunch on the day you missed our meeting! It is a great way to meet other Rotarians and see what they are doing. Visited Canonsburg-Houston-Southpointe last week and sold 3 Cash Bash tickets!

HAPPY DOLLAR$$$$$$

(please excuse there are some missing as the scribe had an important phone call right after MIKE spoke to his addiction to Game of Thrones)
  • Tom Drewitz just returned from his daughter’s wedding in Disney; it was fun and we all got there and back. It was a wonderful time and YES I did see Mickey!
  • Dorothy Tecklenburg happy for PUP Night at the Pirate’s Game tonight. Dorothy and John are taking both of their “pups” and in case you are not aware…their “pups” are Bernese Mountain Dogs….sizable “pups”. They did bring home a WIN and for all of those who are baseball fans…GREAT.
  • Bob Hillberry Happy for Tom’s daughter Jessica…wishing her the happiest.
  • Susan Priest who we know is always HAPPY is especially happy to be having staples removed tomorrow and that she found a new way to drop 8 pounds although she doesn’t recommend it! Great job Sue and keep up your healthy attitude.
  • Erin Jones and Mike had friends travel all the way from the North Hills for the Whiskey Rebellion Festival and they were surprised so much is happening in Washington…let’s hope they come back repeatedly and bring $$$ (editorial comment).
  • Joe Piszczor is beyond happy to report he passed his Boards and is now certified (or certifiable??); pushing CashBash information and hoping everyone is selling….let’s push.

PROGRAM:  GTKaR!

Rotarian Nat Roe suggested we have an occasional program GTKaR or Getting to Know a Rotarian. This week was the first edition. This program will be done by a “seasoned” Rotarian and a fairly new Rotarian and they are being asked to tell their stories.

Shirley Moore and Ellen Hough were the first to tell their stories from childhood dreams to professions found (and how they found them), families formed and how these experiences led each to become productive and active members of the community. Now both Shirley and Ellen serve in their own ways to better the community through “Service Above Self”.
We are all happy these two ladies are with our Club and we all enjoyed the tale of two families and thank you both for sharing. Still having a difficult time envisioning Shirley being a “tom boy” and of course Ellen as the mother of Jesus and that is NOT meant to be sacrilegious (had you been at the meeting you would definitely get it).
Thank you all for attending the meeting and should you have any program suggestions just let it be known.
