PROGRAM

Ken Baker introduced today’s program “Help End Hunger” and this is the 31st Annual “Scouting For Food.” Today’s main speaker was Heidi Hoffman from the County Food Bank and Mundy Fergus of the Washington Food Pantry. The County Food Bank is committed to providing food to the people they serve. With every $5.00 donation the Food Bank can provide 25 nutritious meals to those in need. There are 48 Food Pantries throughout Washington County and 5,582 individuals (or families) were fed in February.
The new location of the Food Bank along Rt 40 in the Centerville Area is more than a distribution center. The building serves a “Healthy Habit Training Center” where clients are taught proper cooking of fresh produce some of which is or will be grown at the center. There is now also a Thrift Store open to all. The clients are also being taught how to grow produce in pots, ground planting or raised beds and are being taught how to build them. This year there will be planting of fruit trees and this is a good place to volunteer…tree planting requires many hands.
Mundy Fergus spoke about the great needs that are fulfilled by the local food pantry which of course is also supplied by the Greater Washington Food Bank. The need grows and 350 families are being served within Washington. The pantry is moving April 22 to a new location behind David’s Limited and near the Methodist Church.
A very special thank you to Ken Baker who leads the “Scouting for Food” drive. Donations will be collected as usual at a meeting and the Board will match to some degree what is donated at the meeting. This is one more of our successful community projects.

THANK YOU TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE FOOD BANK/FOOD PANTRY WHO HELP THOSE LESS FORTUNATE AND WE HOPE ALL MEMBERS WILL REMEMBER TO SUPPORT THIS INITIATIVE.
